One page autograph letter signed “HM” (Henry Mayhew), on his stationery, and addressed to “Dear Sir.”  In 1838, Dickens published, anonymously, “Sketches of Young Gentlemen.”  This work was a protest against an attack on women in a like series of sketches entitled “Sketches of Young Ladies” by “Quiz,” issued by Chapman and Hall the previous year.   It is thought that one of the Mayhew brothers was the author of the “Quiz” work.
