Reproduction of the August 19th, 1865 (incorrectly printed 1862) number of the “Gad’s Hill Gazette” which was, according to Eckel, printed on a small press given to the family by W. H. Wills, sub-editor of “All the Year Round.”  The number exhibited here reports various goings-on in the Dickens household.  The number further states that the family has been visited by the actor Charles Fechter; who has “just completed his charming present of a chalet.”  This reference is to a two-story chalet that Fechter had imported from Switzerland.  The upper floor of this chalet was used by Dickens as a study.
