Engraving of Albert Smith by D. J. Pound, from a photograph by Mayall.  In his Bibliography, under the chapter “Some Costly Dickensiana” Eckel lists Albert Smith’s dramatization of The Cricket on the Hearth.  In 1845, and with “The Express Permission of the Author, Charles Dickens” Albert Smith dramatized The Cricket on the Hearth.  Smith, a friend of Dickens, was a showman and entertainer, and wrote numerous works with a humorous bent to them.
