Portrait of W. C. Macready, published by Macmillan and Co. in 1875.  This portrait is engraved by C. H. Geens and is taken from a photograph once in the possession of Mrs. Macready.  W. C. Macready was a famous actor and theater manager, and a close friend of Charles Dickens.  In his chapter on “Presentation Copies” in his Bibliography, Eckel lists a copy of Nicholas Nickleby with a letter from Dickens dated October 25th, 1839 presenting the book to Macready.  Nicholas Nickleby was dedicated to Macready.
