Three-page autograph letter on the letterhead of “The Athenaeum,” undated, addressed “My dear Sir” and signed “Percy Fitzgerald.”  In this letter, Fitzgerald invites the addressee to attend his lecture on “Boz” (Charles Dickens).  Fitzgerald was a close friend of Dickens, and according to Dickens’s biographer Edgar Johnson, it was Dickens’s wish that Fitzgerald might marry Mamie Dickens.  It may have been Judge Patterson’s intention to include this letter adjacent to page 270, where Eckel in his Bibliography refers to Mamie Dickens.
